Pond Doc's Pond Construction Education Center
Step-by-Step Instructions on How to Build a Low-Maintenance Koi Pond, Goldfish Pond or Water Garden
Pond Doc’s Pond Construction Education Center is a common-sense approach to ornamental pond construction. On this website you will find the information and components necessary to build either a koi pond, goldfish pond or water garden that is clean, healthy, clear and low-maintenance.
Whether you are building the pond yourself or having someone build it for you, Pond Doc’s Pond Construction Education Center is a must for you to read. Don’t rely on your landscaper to know best. It is our experience that many landscapers are trained on the highly marketed and profitable (for them) side-skimmer system. Don’t let that happen to you. Be informed.

Take one of Pond Doc’s online step-by-step pond building courses. We currently have two courses available that you can attend. Both are online and accessible at any time. The courses are absolutely free of charge and we encourage you to take your time and learn as much or as little as you want. You go at your own pace and pick and choose the parts you want to study.
• The Low Maintenance Pond Construction Course
This course is for anyone who wants the lowest maintenance available in a koi pond or water garden. It features external filtration methods and state-of-the-art pond equipment. Maintenance-saving tips are included so that you build the pond to optimize the maintenance-saving features of the filters, pumps and other equipment.
The initial cost of the Low-Maintenance Pond will be slightly higher than most other ponds because it takes advantage of some of the most advanced technology on the market. When I say cost, however, it means up-front cost. In the long-run we have found the low-maintenance pond that we describe in this course to actually save you money. The reason is that the external pumps used are most always higher in electricity efficiency and you will not need to replace equipment or change equipment as often. Bead filters used on this low-maintenance system are designed so that you do not have to replace the filter media. Filter pads and filter media used inside other lesser-quality filters are generally replaced every year.
The Low-Maintenance Pond Construction Course shows you the way to invest in a high-quality system that will last for years.
• The Economy Pond Construction Course
The Economy Course of Pond Construction is more suited to the individual who wants to build a pond with less up-front cost and is willing to spend a little more time and energy for weekly maintenance. People who are planning to sell their home, for example, might opt for a less expensive solution like this one.
Although we don’t incorporate high quality equipment such as bead filters and external pumps in the Economy Course we do try to find the best equipment for the price. For example, there are mid-grade filters that are hard to clean while others are easier to use. We’ll take the best of the middle-grade equipment and show you how to install it to get the best performance out of each component.
The Economy Pond Construction Course shows you how to build a pond for less up-front cost while getting the most performance from the components you install.
The creative part of building a pond is only half the battle. You need good quality equipment to make it work correctly and efficiently. With all the equipment available out there it’s hard to know just what you need and which size to purchase when you finally do decide. Pond Doc’s Pond Construction Education Center provides the tools for you to navigate the different types of filters, pumps, UVs, aerators, drains, skimmers and other equipment, know what to purchase and how to install it onto your pond system.
